We are excited to announce..
...not one, but TWO screenings of the documentary 'Cooking up Dreams' ('De Ollas y Sueños'), directed by the renowned Ernesto Cabellos, as a part of the 'Flavours of Peru' festival and organised by the charity Discovering Latin America (DLA - www.discoveringlatinamerica.org). The screening will take place on October 20th at the proudly independent Shortwave Cinema (www.shortwavefilms.co.uk) in Bermondsey Square (SE1 3UN, Bermondsey or London Bridge tube), with the first showing beginning at 7pm and a second following at 8.45pm. Proceeds raised from ticketing of the screenings will be supporting Kiya Survivors (www.kiyasurvivors.org), a UK-Peruvian charity operating in Peru. They run educational centres for young people with special-needs and those who have suffered abuse and abandonment, they also offer support to families living in severe poverty - by coming to these screenings, you will not only be learning about Peruvian gastronomyand culture, you will also be supporting a worthy cause! So that we don't spoil the ending, we will give you a taste of what to expect with the trailer (documentary will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles) and a short synopsis taken from the film's website (www.guarango.org/dols/):
'In his documentary "Cooking Up Dreams", renowned Peruvian director Ernesto Cabellos, presents his country's spectacular cuisine and asks himself: Can an entire nation be represented by its cuisine? This documentary journeys to the kitchens of Peru's coast, highlands and jungle, as well as Peruvian expat communities in Paris, London, Amsterdam and New York for answers...'
Rumours are that there will be some Peruvian goodies to give away for those attending the screenings, so don't miss out and save the date!
